Field trips to various collecting localities throughout the area are conducted on occasion during the summer months. A special field trip is scheduled each year during the Sudbury Gem & Mineral Show to introduce new hobbyists to the joys of mineral collecting. In addition, all members of The Sudbury Rock and Lapidary Society are eligible to take part in field trips organized by the Central Canadian Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
Club Field Trips
There are few opportunities for field trips within the City of Greater Sudbury because the mining companies generally prohibit access to their mine sites. In addition, sites where mining was done in the past have been rehabilitated, in accordance with the provisions of the Mining Act.
